What is Manna?

We're glad you asked. Manna is an ongoing dinner and discussion experiment put together by College of Charleston students to bring together students of different beliefs and backgrounds for meaningful conversation and relationships.

Whether you're over the bar scene, hung over from Friday night, or just seeking some thoughtful people to chat up, Manna seeks to be the alternative night out with just a touch of class.

Festive Final Manna of 2011

.

Guys did, in fact, man-up for last month's Manna.
5 of them.
And they kept conversation away from love.

Instead, we discussed tattoos, desert islands and cartoon characters. Not trying to reinforce stereotypes or anything... just sharing the facts!

So what can we expect for the next Manna - the last one of 2011???

It is going to be festive.

Holiday attire is welcomed... encouraged actually!

Ok, so maybe that is a bit much. But wear whatever ChristmaHanuKwanzaakah outfit you can whip up :)

Don't forget to whip up a tasty treat, too. Maybe your favorite holiday dish? Something festive?

Then whip up a good question and get ready for good conversation. It will be a nice mental break from the monotony of exam studying cause we'll be meeting Saturday, December 10th at 7pm.

Come join us for some festive fun at 65 1/2 Ashley Avenue. It's a yellow house with 2 front doors; head down the brick path to the left of the house and up the back stairs to the upstairs apartment. There is a ton of street parking nearby around Colonial Lake.

GET READY FOR A MERRY MANNA!!!!!!!!!!

Man Up for Manna

We need some guys to man up and make it out to our next Manna - Saturday, November 12th at 7pm.

Our last Manna was great but overloaded on estrogen ;)

We had ALLLLL girls except for one guy – though he was 6’6’’ and a football player from the Citadel so he brought a fair share of testosterone. Nonetheless, the ladies had a strong influence as we had 4 or 5 questions on love, soul mates and marriage. Bless his heart.

Plus, literally all the ladies brought sweets - including 2 batches of brownies - while our solo guy brought rice which seemed appropriately manly ;) The most unusual and delicious treat of the evening was a salted, caramel and chocolate pretzel bark.

So bring some tasty baked goods (or rice). And a cool question.

Expect cool conversation. And cheese.

116 A Smith Street. See map here.

Be there.

Manna Round 2

Our first Manna of the year last month was a huge success!

It involved breaking and entering into our location (the host wasn't home yet), lavender chocolate pie, and a cat - aka edgy, delicious, and heartwarming :)

Our host was so incredibly inviting that she let us come over even though SHE wasn't there!?! Thank you Rachael Cecheak! We missed her.

And we missed you. BUT y'all are in luck... our next Manna is coming up: Saturday, October 22nd at 7.

Though our last host was so gracious, this month Kelsey Kilgore is gonna try to top her by hosting us at 85 Spring Street.

Get excited!

And since, like last month, the house is a bit farther away we can arrange rides. Contact Sarah Andrews or Colin Kerr on facebook and we'll hook you up...

As always, feel free to bring friends, delicious food and, of course, an awesome question!!!

PS - I'm adding a pumpkin picture... just because that seems appropriate given fall weather and Halloween approaching ;)

Maybe it will inspire you to make some sort of tasty pumpkin creation... or maybe that is just my wishful thinking??? :)

First. Manna. Of. The. Year.

Get excited!!!!

It is our first Manna of the year.

Whether you're a new student looking to bond with other super cool people OR you're already bored with classes and want some stimulating discussion OR you're a Manna regular and just can't wait to get back into our monthly meetings, we hope you'll make it to our launch for this school-year: Saturday, September 10th.

Head over to 117 Line Street, Apartment C for some fancy food and conversation. And be sure to thank Rachael Cechak, our lovely hostess!

Since it is a little farther away, we'll organize rides to get you there if you'd like one. Email cofcmanna@gmail.com to request a ride or find Colin Kerr and/or Sarah Andrews on facebook.

Feel free to bring friends and food :)

See ya Saturday, September 10th at 7 pm...

The Last Supper (of the academic year)

It's the last Manna of the year on the 23rd, ever delicately placed on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter. So if you're not heading home for Easter to hang out with mom and pops, consider joining us for evening of unique food and good discussion. Sorry, the Easter Bunny will not be participating.

Elise Lasko, who two months ago got totally scammed by drawing the last question only to find that all the questions had been taken already, is hosting us. This means she'll get to draw the first question. Very tactical, I mean, gracious of her.

She lives at 17 Gadsden Street Apt A. It's the downstairs apt located on the corner of Gadsden and Wentworth. However, it might be missing a number, so for better reference its the brown/gray house on the corner. Her cell is 330-509-1706 if anyone gets lost.

See you Saturday, the 23rd at 7 pm.

Old House, New Host

So we're back to 473 Race Street, except we have a new host (hostess? Errr, what's the pc title these days?) Sanaz Arjomand is responsible for this one, which means if you want good food, you better bring it yourself (just kidding!)

But seriously, last month was a new milestone in glorious (and mostly vegan) food-making by our wonderful participants. Even this non-vegan enjoyed it. Keep up the goodness and good questions.

See you this Saturday the 19th at 7 pm. Note: 473 Race Street is above the Crosstown, so if you need ride, email me at citizen.kerr@gmail.com and we'll get you set up. Friends welcome as usual.

love feast (or something)

Hey Folks,

Need an alternative Valentines date? How about you bring your significant other to our little gathering this Saturday, the 12th, at 7 pm? At first I wasn't serious when I wrote that, but now that I think about it, why not?? If you don't have a date, well, you can enjoy your singleness with us too.

This month, Lauren Glaser is so graciously inviting us into her home for our February love feast. It's going to be at 62B Cannon Street (closest intersection is at Felix), which is a white house directly across from Sugar. We'll be in the top floor, and you can enter from the back--just go up the stairs, and you'll be able to see right in.

Just don't do it in the creepy way.

Have an Ice Cold January Manna

Welcome back. Hope your holidays were swell.

Hannah wants us back again, presumably because she enjoyed the prosciutto. She wants it. She loves it. She wants s'more of it. And we want more worthwhile discussion, so it all works out.

So this Saturday we're headed back to 49B Chapel Street (right behind Second Presbyterian Church and the fountain park). Note the tiny map below. See you Saturday the 15th at 7 pm!
